About Loom
Loom is a screen and camera recorder built for team communication rather than film production. It records a screen, a webcam and a microphone at the same time, trims and stitches clips, and publishes a shareable link with transcripts and captions in 50+ languages. The Starter plan is free but limited to 25 videos per person and 720p. Business ($18/user/mo billed monthly) raises the limits to unlimited videos and up to 4K, removes Loom branding and adds trim, stitch and custom thumbnails.
What changed in 2026 is mostly on the AI and integration side. The Business + AI tier ($24/user/mo monthly) bundles Loom AI features, and Atlassian lists meeting notes, recap emails and AI workflows that turn a recording into an SOP, doc or Jira ticket. Loom now has official MCP tools (read_loom and write_loom) that let agents such as Claude read transcripts and action items, comment, share and create recordings, subject to the viewer's existing permissions. Loom for Mac was rebuilt with 4K capture and custom-area recording.
For a filmmaker, Loom is useful for dailies notes, client review loops, screen-capture tutorials and fast rough cuts with a script or transcript in hand. It is not a picture editor, has no generative video, and has no timeline built for a finishing workflow. Use it for the communication layer around a production, and use an NLE or a tool like Descript for the cut itself.
