About Suno
Suno started as a song generator and has become a music production suite. You prompt for a full track, edit sections or single lyrics with plain-language instructions, and extract stems. Paid plans include commercial rights for songs created while subscribed.
What changed in 2026: Suno v5.5 (March) added Voices (your own singing voice, Pro and Premier only), Custom Models trained on your catalog (up to three, Pro and Premier) and My Taste. Suno v6, v6-wild and v6-mini shipped on 2026-09-09; v6 and v6-wild are Pro and Premier, v6-mini is free, and older models are being retired from new generation. Studio 2.0 added MIDI on a timeline, a wavetable synth, sidechain compression and convolution reverb, automation curves and a chat bar for building plugins and instruments. Speech (beta, 2026-10-01) generates spoken word over a music bed. Suno also settled with major labels and signed distribution partnerships, which affects what it can output and how.
For filmmakers, Suno fits temp and final background scores for non-dialogue sequences, montage music, trailers and social cuts, where a 30 to 90 second bed is needed fast and the budget does not cover a licensed library. It does not replace a composer for hero cues. The main workflow risk is download caps: a Premier user without Studio can download 60 songs a month, and free users get a small lifetime trial allowance, so plan downloads before you start a cut.
