Epidemic Sound

Licensed music and SFX that stays Content ID-cleared while your subscription is active

popular

Epidemic Sound is a subscription library of about 55,000 in-house music tracks and 250,000+ sound effects, licensed for video creators and businesses. In 2026 it added AI tools on top of the library: Studio builds a soundtrack draft from a video, Assistant searches by text prompt inside Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, Adapt reshapes existing tracks, and Voices generates AI voiceovers.

Why it stands out

What makes Epidemic Sound different

  1. 01

Owned catalog: the company says it owns its music and sells a global direct licence with all rights included, so there is no per-track rights chain to chase

  2. 02

Content ID positioning: the company works with platforms to whitelist its catalog, and channels can be safelisted when registered in the Epidemic Sound dashboard

  3. 03

Unlimited downloads on every plan, versus per-track or credit-based licensing at many stock sites

  4. 04

Editor integration: Assistant and the plugin run inside Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve Studio, not only in a browser

  5. 05

Studio turns an uploaded video into a timed soundtrack draft, which is faster for rough cuts than searching by hand

The Feature

About Epidemic Sound

Epidemic Sound sells a catalog licence rather than per-track purchases. Every plan includes unlimited downloads and a direct licence for the company's own music, and the company positions the library around YouTube and social Content ID safety. Music published while a subscription is active stays cleared, but access to the library ends when the subscription does, so a filmmaker has to keep paying to keep the edit cleared in the future.

What changed in 2026 is mostly tooling. Studio (updated in April) generates a timed soundtrack draft from an uploaded MP4, MOV or WebM of up to 4 minutes. Assistant, updated in January and April, takes text prompts, a video frame search and a Find Similar function, and it now sits inside Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve Studio and the desktop app, where tracks can be dragged onto the timeline. Voices by Epidemic Sound (a July 2026 product update) adds text-to-speech voiceovers in 70+ languages through ElevenLabs, with 14 languages through Cartesia, and ElevenLabs-only speech-to-speech voice cloning. An Epidemic Sound API with a 50-download free prototyping tier was opened to platforms in April and June 2026.

For a film or video workflow it fits as the music and SFX layer: temp and final music for YouTube, Shorts and social cuts, explainer narration, and ad music on the Pro or Enterprise tier. It is less suited to a bespoke score or to projects that need a track owned outright after the subscription ends.

The Verdict

When to reach for it — and when to skip

Reach for it when…

  • Unlimited downloads on every paid plan, so cost does not scale with the number of cuts
  • Content ID-oriented catalog with channel safelisting and a documented dispute route for long-form claims
  • Assistant and Studio are inside Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, so a rough-cut soundtrack can be built without leaving the timeline
  • Voiceover and cloning are available in the same account as the music library
  • Clear per-tier ad-use rule (Pro and Enterprise) for brands and agencies

Skip it when…

  • Library access ends when the subscription does; cleared content stays cleared, but you cannot keep using the library unpaid
  • Creator plan does not include ad use; ad campaigns need Pro or Enterprise
  • No text-to-music generation; AI tools work on the existing catalog (Studio, Adapt) or as voice, not as open prompt music generation

Best For

✓ Ideal for

  • YouTube and short-form creators who need music that will not trigger Content ID claims
  • Editors building a temp or final soundtrack in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve with Assistant and Studio
  • Explainer and documentary creators who need AI voiceover in many languages without booking a voice actor
  • Brands and agencies clearing a creator roster for paid media (Enterprise, Influencer Workflows)
  • Developers adding licensed music and SFX search to their own platform via the API

✗ Not built for

  • Projects that need a bespoke composed score or a track owned outright after the subscription ends
  • Creators who only need one track for one ad on the Creator plan, since ad use needs Pro
Field Notes

Working Tips from Filmmakers Using Epidemic Sound

  1. 01 Download and publish while the subscription is active: content published during the subscription stays cleared, but the library is locked once it lapses. Keep one active plan through the delivery window.
  2. 02 Use Studio on a rough cut to get a timed draft in minutes, then replace each cue with a track from Assistant's Find Similar before final mix.
  3. 03 Register every platform (including Shorts, Reels and livestreams) in the Epidemic Sound dashboard. For long-form Content ID claims, dispute in YouTube Studio within about 5 days so ad revenue is not held.
  4. 04 Use the 50-download API tier only to prototype. It cannot be used to launch a product, so move to a paid plan before publishing.
